The best cafés are the ones that make you feel right at home. Well, that would be the Lackawanna High School Bistro! Mrs. Willat’s life skill students have been serving up healthy breakfast, lunches and snacks for students, teachers and staff for six years. This affordable and friendly-service option has been a huge success and very much appreciated by everyone. It brightens the days of teachers and students alike when they get to patronize our Bistro.
Made possible through a Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant, her special needs students are learning what it takes to run a business. From greeting the customers, to inventory, record-keeping, prep work, taking orders, check-out counter, to clean up, these amazing workers know how to get it done. The lessons learned are priceless.
This year, there is a new mentoring TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) program. It’s a group of LHS students who are excited to volunteer alongside the Bistro crew. All students encourage each other, are kind, respectful and display teamwork.
Mrs. Willat’s class would also like to thank Mrs. Sandra Falsioni, a retired teacher and former Teacher Center Director, for her recent donation of new appliances.
