Students work on math in class.

Fifth grade students recently brought energy and excitement to math class while strengthening their understanding of decimal place value through a fast-paced activity called Scoot. In this interactive game, students rotate from desk to desk, solving problems that challenge them to identify, compare, and apply their knowledge of decimals.

As they “scoot” around the room, students engage in meaningful practice that reinforces key concepts such as tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. The activity encourages both accuracy and efficiency, helping students build confidence in their skills while staying actively involved in their learning.

Scoot not only makes practicing math fun, but it also promotes collaboration, movement, and critical thinking. By combining academic rigor with an engaging format, our fifth graders are developing a strong foundation in decimal place value that will support their continued success in mathematics.
