Last month, Lackawanna Senior Tahanie Ahmed and former LHS student Aisha Makama participated in their 3rd Model UN conference which took place at the University of Buffalo. Tahanie and Aisha represent the country of Iraq at the conference and put forth several resolutions to help deal with displaced people.

Both students presented their ideas on the floor of the convention, organized caucuses and facilitated debates to resolve issues such as displaced people, climate change and equal rights. Tahanie and Aisha participated in two other Model UN conferences this year at Canisius College. Both students are extremely interested in geo politics and humanitarian issues and say they plan to continue Model UN when they begin University this fall.

Tahanie and Aisha researched, organized, and presented scholarly info to large groups of their peers from across Western New York at each conference. They enhanced their abilities to problem solve and network by participating in the program and they would encourage others to participate in Model UN in the future.
